  1. Winter Break!
I had a great winter break! I got to go on hikes with friends somewhere in Mahwah. I also got invited by a friend to go out to eat with his family and we went to the Chinese buffet and I was tricked into eating frog legs?! It really wasn’t that bad. Over all though I went on many college visits one of which was a bus tour of Rutgers which was kind of fun, and slept in every chance I got. My break was fun and so much was going on, I can’t really complain that it was too short.

  2. My winter break was awesome; I spent it in Nashville on a church mission trip. My group of 20 kids and 4 adults did lots of volunteering, plus some fun stuff. The whole group worked hard, and did a lot to help out. Some of the things I did include raking leaves, scrubbing a tile floor with vinegar-soaked toothbrushes, painting a porch and sealing a deck. I also volunteered with a program called Nations Ministry, which educates displaced African refugees. I went to their preschool and watched three and four-year olds, which was a lot of fun. The kids were very cute and pretty smart. After lunch that day my group went to a middle school for African refugee kids, and we helped a group of students with their homework. All that pretty much sums up the volunteer work I did over break. We also had more fun in Nashville, when we went downtown. One night we went to a saloon, where we learned how to line dance. Overall, the people I met in Nashville were very kind and welcoming, especially those who knew my group was helping out. Nashville is definitely a fun place to go. I was away from home all break, but I had a great time, and wouldn’t have wanted it any different.

  3. Over winter break I went to the Palisades mall. While at the mall I shopped in H&M and bought a dress for my cousin’s wedding shower. After shopping I went to Dave & Busters. I had a lot of fun. In total, I ended up winning over 1000 tickets. I used them to buy a light up pen and saved the rest for whenever I go back. It was a good break.

  4. Over winter break, most of my time was spent sleeping and relaxing, getting ready to return to school and train for spring track this coming Friday. On Monday, I went to Garden State Plaza to go shopping. From Tuesday to Thursday, I relaxed and slept. On Friday, I went to the mall with a few friends to hang out. On Saturday and Sunday, I relaxed some more, getting ready for school on Monday.

  5. My February Break was spent quietly compared to others. I was house and dog sitting for a friend and his family who went to Florida. I am glad to say that everything went well and I had no problems with the dogs or the house. I did discover a new guilty pleasure. Pancakes at McDonald’s, or as they call them “hotcakes”. They’re better than the pancakes at IHOP. On Thursday morning, I met up with some old friends at McDonald’s and stayed there and talked with them for two hours. It was great to be able to just sit and talk with them. Other than that, not much really happened. I picked up some DVDs, including Tower Heist with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. It was very funny and I highly recommend it.

This break was very relaxing, and it’s unfortunate that school had to start up again. I started off the week by visiting my cousin in Virginia. I went with my other cousin and his friend, but this wasn’t just a trip to visit my cousin, I also got a tour of her college Old Dominion University. It was a really nice school and I had a lot of fun on the trip with my cousins and their friends.
I came home from the trip on Monday and that’s when I really didn’t do much and just relaxed. I got to sleep in just chill with my friends. It was a very non productive week because I had no motivation to get any work done. Overall I had a very nice week and on the plus side it was really nice out all week, unlike other winter breaks where there’s snow or rain. Now it’s time to get back into the swing of things with school and count down the days to the next break.

  7. Over winter break, I took a day trip to New York City with my family. We all went to Wollman Rink in Central Park, and skated for the better part of an hour. Then we walked to the Italian restaurant Carmines on the Upper West Side. After having an amazing dinner, we went home and watched movies.

    My Break
Over my break I didn’t do very much. One thing that I did do was go to Garden State Plaza with my friend Carly to see the new Star Wars movie that they made. It was Episode One: The Phantom Menace. They movie makers revamped this old movie in 3D so that they could pull in a lot of people including old fans and a new generation of Star Wars fans. The movie was probably about 3 hours long but it felt like the time went very fast, mostly because the movie was very entertaining. Other than going to the movies with my friends, most of my break consisted of me relaxing at home. All in all it was a much needed break and I appreciated my time resting.

  9. Waldwick High school students and many other lucky high school students got to appreciate a week off of school because of the anticipating February break. While some kids relished an enjoyable amount of days sleeping in, I was out and about on the slopes.
Right on the first day of break, my family and I traveled on a 4 hr. car ride to Vermont. It’s sort of like a tradition that my family takes a few trips up there every year. The first time we went, I was in first grade learning how to ski and now since I “mastered” skiing I’ve moved onto snowboarding. My family including my parents and my brother joined by aunts, uncles, and cousins stayed in our cabin when we were not off gallanting on the mountains. We stayed for 3 days and 4 nights and every one of those mornings we woke up at 7am, in order to take advantage of a full days’ worth of skiing. Since we went with my dad’s side of the family, I am one of the only girls in a flock of boys. All my boy cousins and I constantly compete with each other and skiing/snowboarding is no exception. This vacation we raced down several mountains, going down different turns to see who would reach the bottom first. I’m proud to say I won a couple times! As well as racing with each other, we spent quite some time on part of the slope that had the terrain park. The terrain park is the spot on the mountain where people can do tricks and all sorts of jumps on the man-made hills, rails, and “boxes” that are strategically placed for that purpose. Even though I’m quite terrified of jumps, it still givesno reason for my cousins to drag me along with them, as I watch them all try to outdo each other, showing off, trick after trick.
During the end of my trip, I couldn’t believe the couple days I’ve spent in Vermont went by so quickly. The time I’ve spent there for this break was glorious. I couldn’t have asked for better weather; sunny and perfect temperature, not too cold and not too warm. The slopes were impeccable as well because the snow was powdery instead of icy which helps skiers and snowboarders carve their way down the mountain. I think the best part of the trip for me was to spend time with my family. I had a great time snowboarding and it was even a greater time to be able to go with my family. This is what I did over break.

During my winter break, I spent my time at home with my family. I got to go to bed late and sleep in each day. Throughout the week, I watched many movies such as Breaking Dawn Part.1, Chronicle, Abducted and Scream 4. One thing I loved was being able to catch up on Gossip Girl on Netflix. Wednesday, I went to Garden State Plaza to do some shopping. The mall was surprisingly empty and I found parking in less than a minute. I ended up coming home with nothing because I was really short on money. I wanted to wait until after I babysat that night so I could use the money to do some real shopping. Unfortunately, the person I had to babysit had cancelled and I never got to go shopping after all. Friday and Saturday consisted of me watching The Office all day with my brother since it was raining outside. I never knew how funny that show was, and now I am hooked. That same day I found this great recipe for a mushroom hamburger. I prefer eating it with no meat because it’s healthier. It was only two toasted slices of bread and grilled Portobello mushroom with melted cheese on top. It was delicious! On the last day of break I had time to clean my room and do some homework. I thought that break went by too fast, but I’m happy I got the rest that I needed.

I had a great break. Even though I didn't go anywhere special, I did something exciting every day. I could never say I was bored. Whether I was at the mall with my friends or just driving around, I had a good time. I saw a couple movies over break such as The Last Song, Letters to Juliet, Up, and How to Train A Dragon. All of them are extremely adorable movies and I can watch them over and over again. Ritas and Ben and Jerry's were also places that I spent a lot of time at. Not just to eat icecream, but also to socialize with friends. My awesome break just goes to show that you don't need to go to Califoria or someplace exotic just to have a good week off!

  12. Although my February break was nothing too special, it was pretty good. My favorite thing about break was that I had a lot of time to relax. First of all, I got to catch up on a lot of sleep. There is nothing better than going to bed at two in the morning, then waking up at noon the next day. Also, my sister came home from college, so we spent some time shopping and catching up. I went shopping with my friends various times, as well. I even saw the movie, The Vow. Despite the somewhat disappointing ending, it was pretty enjoyable. Finally, on Sunday, which was the last day of break, I dedicated my time by finishing up my homework.

  13. Over Winter break, nothing really exciting happened. It was a relaxing break but boring. Although, the one thing I did do at the beginning of break was visit my friend’s college. Visiting Farleigh Dickinson University in Madison in New Jersey is great for a taste of college life. It was wonderful to see my friend and meet her friends at FDU as well. Everything from the dorms to the student center was interesting to see. When I had to leave I didn’t want to go back to high school!

  14. Boringly Awesome Break
    By Melissa Davies

As many students were lucky enough to go on glorious outside trips, I was lucky enough to stay home all week doing nothing really productive. The most exciting social activity was whenever I was able to hang around my older sisters and our friends. I did enjoy when I noticed I had letters in the mail for me from my friends over seas. I was pleased to see my pet-posts on Tumblr got a great deal of attention.

My blog on Tumblr reached beyond its thousandth follower; probably not because of my personal posts but because of my adorably annoying pets. My fat cat, Piff, got over 100 reblogs and likes on the picture I posted of her stuck inside my tub of cotton candy (she ate half the tub and I'm surprised she is not sick). Since this fat tabby cat spends most of her time being my shadow, she appears most on my blog. However, despite Piff's weekly appearances- it was my lion head rabbit Fiona that was the most popular on Tumblr! Fiona not only received reblogs and likes on a text post and picture. The little grey ball of fur triggered a few questions and comments. I had people go into my ask box and share about their rabbits and their stories. That popularity only lasted one night.

When I was not on Tumblr blogging away, I was Skyping my friends that live in England and my marine heroes that are stationed over seas somewhere. I received three letters in the mail from my pen pals over seas. That made my entire week awesome because anytime I get word that my marine friends are safe and healthy I always feel good inside and a little relieved. I sent back a care package full of freshly knit items and magazines. My friends from England also sent me a letter and included a picture of them and at their rugby game. I love receiving and sending any kind of 'snail mail'. It's always a cool feeling to know that someone took time out of their life to put some work into a hand made letter.

As much as I love being on my laptop, I do have friends outside Skype and Tumblr. When not on my laptop (or sleeping) I was having fun with my older sisters Christina and Andrea and our friends. We mostly spent our time together just driving around talking and planning out Andrea's 21st birthday (which is the 27th of February this year). Whenever we hang out I'm not just the annoying little sister who is only sixteen. I don't have to pretend when I'm around them. I can really vent because they are not just my friends. Of course Christina and Andrea are my older sisters by blood. However there are also the friends that I feel are so close to my mom, my sisters, and myself that they are considered family themselves. My older sisters and friends are always able to make my break from school the best. Even if I did spend most of it on my laptop; it was awesome.

  15. My winter break wasn’t exciting but I still enjoyed it. I could have gone to Arizona, but I was just looking to relax over break. My days mostly consisted of waking up at around nine-ish to a peacefully quiet house, cooking some breakfast, watching sports and for most of the morning and then getting ready. After that point, each day was different.

I hung out with my friends pretty much every day but it was usually just driving around looking for something to do. We usually ended up playing soccer or watching a movie which was better than just staying at home.

On Tuesday night there was a basketball game at the school. I was glad I went because it was really exciting. Waldwick won by one point so it was a great game to watch. This was probably the most exciting night of break

  16. My winter break was overall fairly good. One of the highlights of my break was sleeping in, visiting my friends from college and getting my ears pierced for the third time. It was a good feeling to sleep in late and not go to school the next day. All I can say is that I was happy not worrying about school assignments over break!
