Ali Giordano of Waldwick High School proved her amazing talent when she was names Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
The WHS girls’ volleyball team was on a roll last week, winning three games with Giordano filling the stat sheet with an impressive 61 kills, 46 digs, and 25 aces.
According to the article that appeared in The Bergen Record, Giordano’s coach, Mrs. Gastman, said:  “‘The 5-foot-9 Giordano is the best volleyball player Waldwick has had over the previous decade.’”
The team is making a lot of noise this season, beating their competition by huge margins, largely because of Giordano.  But she is not taking all of the credit.  “[the team is] absolutely outstanding, we are the definition of hard work and perseverance.  We have been working since July and all our hard work is paying off.  I couldn’t be more proud of my team.  Without them, none of this could have happened.  Also, the coaches are a main reason why we are playing so well this year.  They are constantly supporting us and always encouraging us to grow as players as well as a team,” she said.
In fact, Giordano admitted that she did not even expect to get the award.  “I was completely shocked; I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
When asked how she felt when she heard the news about Giordano’s recognition, Mrs. Gastman said, “I could not be happier for Ali.  I have never coached a girl more deserving.  Her strength and endurance is admirable.  I love to watch her play.”
Giordano was also recently named student of the month for athletics at WHS.
